EMEA Office Fit-out Costs Guide 2026
Bucharest, April 2026: Lagardère Travel Retail, Romania’s travel retail market leader, has extended its lease for the 2,300 sq. m headquarters in Globalworth Campus within the Dimitrie Pompeiu office submarket in Bucharest. Cushman & Wakefield Echinox advised the tenant in the renegotiation process, through its Office Agency team led by Monica Vasile, Director, Office Agency, and Alin Obretin, Senior Consultant, Office Agency.
With more a presence spanning more than three decades in Romania, Lagardère Travel Retail continues to expand, through network growth and a broader portfolio of retail concepts.
The company has chosen to keep its headquarters in the building it occupied during the pandemic, valuing operational continuity as well as convenient access to key business hubs and transport infrastructure.
Lagardère operates brands such as Inmedio, 1Minute, Relay, Hub Convenience and Aelia, providing integrated solutions for travellers across airports, railway stations and business centres.
Comprising three buildings and 90,500 sq. m of leasable area, Globalworth Campus is part of Globalworth’s portfolio, the largest owner of office spaces on the local market.
Marius Văcălău, CEO, Lagardère Travel Retail Romania: “This year, Lagardère Travel Retail celebrates 30 years in Romania – a journey defined by steady growth and consolidation of our leadership position in the travel retail market. We were among the first tenants to move to Globalworth Campus during the pandemic, and this long-term partnership has supported our development at key moments. With the launch of our Duty Paid line through the Aelia@Bucharest brand at the Henri Coandă International Airport, we became Romania’s largest travel retailer, opening a new chapter in the company’s evolution. This project further strengthened our three business lines – Duty Paid, Travel Retail and Dining – offering travellers a complete experience aligned with the highest international standards. In this context, continuing our collaboration with Globalworth and renewing the lease is a natural next step in our growth strategy.”
The transaction comes at a time when Bucharest’s office market is shaped by limited new supply and increasingly selective demand, with a strong focus on retention, efficiency and building quality.
With very few new deliveries in recent years, the vacancy rate continued to decline, while modern, well-connected spaces – meeting today’s technical and sustainability requirements – remain in high demand.
Monica Vasile, Director, Office Agency, Cushman & Wakefield Echinox: “In the current market cycle, where the new supply is limited and companies are increasingly focused on efficiency and employee experience, we notice a clear shift towards high-performing, well-connected buildings, which provide services that enable flexible work models. Lease renewals have had a relatively high share in the total take-up during the last few years, and projects such as Globalworth Campus remain among the most attractive options for tenants aiming for stability, predictability and high office space standards.”
Cushman & Wakefield Echinox’s Office Agency team provided strategic consultancy throughout the process, helping secure a contractual structure aligned with the tenant’s current needs for flexibility and efficiency.
Alin Obretin, Senior Consultant, Office Agency, Cushman & Wakefield Echinox: “We are pleased to have advised Lagardère Travel Retail in renewing their office lease. The transaction confirms the appeal of Globalworth Campus for tenants that prioritise quality, accessibility and a strong mix of amenities which support day-to-day operations. Lagardère’s decision to consolidate their headquarters here sends a positive signal to Bucharest’s office market and shows how strong tenant–landlord partnerships, helped by specialised consultancy, can deliver efficient and sustainable long-term solutions.”
